After playing several full motion video games in the last year, one game that doesn't bite more that it can chew, one game that does it alright.The shapeshifting detective is very simple, but effective. It consists only of a series of characters interviews , which are in different places around town. There's been a murder, and you investigate, secretly, as the shapeshifter, changing identities, looking for the killer. It is only these interviews, one on one, it's sort of like a theater play at times, but these interviews are well shot, well lit and the actors are convincing. They are well edited, quick, and to the point. The game mechanics are also simple (you don't have any object manipulation, just the questions and certain choices you make from time to time) In doing everything like this, The shapeshifting detective avoids the main problem of other video fmv adventures. It doesn't promise more than it can handle. The game is built around one concept and it takes full profit of it . It doesn't feature exploration, puzzles or action, its just the interviews, with the actors and it builds the story around them. And it works just fine.
